Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Originally a one-story building, it was rebuilt in classicism in 1837-1838, and in 1845, in connection with the construction of the railway station, it was raised to a two-story building, and the luxurious cafe U nádraží was established on the entire first floor. The cafe was built and furnished at a cost of 40 thousand guilders in Moorish style, with beautiful stucco interiors and a ceiling decorated with paintings. It was supported by 12 cast-iron columns, on the bearing stones of which scenes from the Thousand and One Nights were painted. The overall impression was completed by mirrors between the windows, furniture by Eybler, two pools with a fountain and gold-decorated wallpaper. Part of the cafe space was a pool hall, a reading room and a games room. With this business and its concept, the owners Š. and J. Heichenwalder started a new era of Prague coffee shops. In 1875, the cafe was closed, a hotel was established in the entire building and a restaurant with a taproom on the ground floor. The building was probably raised by another floor in the 1920s, and in 1958 an archway was added.
