Description

Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans' 6/2021 Plantain Lily- (Blue leaf) Plantain Lily, Mature size: 18x36”, Blue-grey Quilted leaves, whitish flowers, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW25, In Garden Bed e2 for 6.7 YEARS (Lowes). Planted in 2014.

The standard in blue-leaved Hostas. Midsummer flowers on 40in stems. Very slow grower. Large hosta growing to 30in. tall and 48in. wide. Only one of the four survived.

Missouri Botanical Garden: Specific epithet honors German doctor Philipp Franz van Siebold (1796-1866) who introduced many Japanese plants into European gardens.

'Elegans' grows to 30" tall and 48" in diameter. It features large (13" x 10"), heart-shaped, thick-textured, heavily corrugated, surface-cupped, blue-green leaves and racemes of funnel-shaped, mostly white flowers with a violet tinge on scapes up to 36". This species is a slow grower and will take several years to reach mature shape. May also be listed as Hosta sieboldiana var. elegans.

Only one of four survived, 2020.
