Barroc. XVIII Mediados, XX Final. Tossa de Mar "El antiguo Hospital de San Miguel fue fundado en el año 1773 por el prohombre de la población Tomás Vidal Rey, considerado precursor de los indianos. Mucho antes de que el rey Carlos III liberalizara los puertos españoles en el año 1765, Tomás Vidal ya había hecho dos viajes a América: a Puerto Rico y a Guatemala, respectivamente. Cuando volvió a Tossa, dedicó gran parte de su fortuna a la construcción de un hospital de caridad para los pobres de la población. El edificio, de dimensiones considerables, consta de un cuerpo rectangular de dos plantas ordenado alrededor de un claustro. En uno de los laterales se encuentra la capilla dedicada a San Miguel, advocación propia de los hospitales del s. XVIII en Cataluña. Debajo de la nave de la capilla existe una cripta donde se halla enterrado el fundador del Hospital. Cabe destacar la imagen de San Miguel del altar mayor, de factura barroca popular, obra del taller local de Cas Fuster"
