Description

Hospital Cay, Guantanamo

Original caption: "
November 1854

It would be another 100 years until the British again figured in Guantanamo History, when the British warship, HBMS Buzzard, entered the bay with 10-12 yellow fever victims aboard. The skipper anchored near ‘Hospital Cay,’ and put his patients ashore for isolation and treatment. All the victims recovered except one, E.N. Harrison, paymaster, who died on Dec. 1, 1854, and was buried on the cay’s south end.
