Summary
[edit]DescriptionHorseshoe weir on the Teme from Ludford Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1743974.jpg |
English: Horseshoe weir on the Teme from Ludford Bridge The Teme rises in the Kerry Hills, south of Newtown in Powys, and flows through Ludlow in Shropshire, and empties into the Severn south of Worcester. Two other rivers, the Ithon and the Mule, rise within 500 metres of the Teme. The river falls almost 500 metres during its descent from a height of 506 metres above sea level at source, to 14 metres above sea level at its confluence with the Severn.
The entire river was designated as an SSSI in 1996. Five weirs, including the unusual and restored Horseshoe Weir, once provided the power for a series of watermills engaged in processing wool from Marches sheep. |
