A deck tank should beprovided into which the water should be pumped for distribution,by gravity, to the various animal compartments. Barrels shouldbe at hand in each compartment for use in connection with thehose in the distribution to the horses. The filling of buckets fromhose is a rather slow process, but the water is not wasted to suchan extent as when dipped from barrels when the ship is rolling.Unless great care is taken the barrels are soon fouled with dirtybuckets. 392 HORSES, SADDLES AND BRIDLES A small water-trough, holding enough for two animals, andarranged on wheels, as a push cart, is preferable to buckets.
