Title |
horse mount |
||
Description |
English: Cast pewter mount in the form of a horse's head with bridle and blinkers. The mount has been decorated on both sides, with similar detail on the head of the horse, but the mane has more curved and concentric lines on one side than the other. The object was obviously meant to be seen from both sides so it would not have been a badge, but perhaps more likely a finial or toy as it has no means of attachment left extant. The body of the horse is missing but the edge of the base of the neck does not appear to have been broken off a larger piece, so this may represent the complete object. or this section may have been part of a composite piece. The blinkers suggest that the illustration is relatively modern in style and the thickness of the piece makes it unlikley to have been a badge (Kevin Leahy pers comm).
Bailey (2002) illustrates an example of a flat lead toy of a horse and cowboy on page 63, Fig.12, and a flat lead horse that was perhaps secured to a toy cart by its iron stud on page 67, Fig.8, which are dated to the early 1900s. |
