the best colt (three-year-old) purchased byhim from the Yardley Stud, and Enthusiast and Enterprise were among hispurchases ; but, unhappily, in his trial with Martagon, then five years old, whomhe beat at even weights, and several others in a canter, he hit his leg so badlythat Mr. Baird decided to resell Endurance back to Miss Isabella Graham forthe use of the Yardley Stud ; and Mr. James Ryan considered and said, Endurancewas one of the best horses he has ever trained ! Such is the brief history of oneof the best-looking sires now at the stud, and whose pedigree, given in extenso onthe opposite page, can in no way be excelled. Endurance is already the sire offour winners—Endure, Bicorniger, Record Reign, and the filly out of VolscianQueen—who among them have taken eight races worth £1,250 10s. ; and in 1897he is credited with being the sire of four colts and eight fillies (now yearlings),two of which (a colt and filly) are dead, while Sedate by Sefton foaled dead t\nnsto him.
