Description
English: Funerary chapel in Hopsten, Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building, situated on the street Auf der Leuchtenburg, dates from 1705 and was first used as a „normal“ chapel. In 1846 it was converted into the burial place of Theodor Lucas Brüggemann, a merchant from Hopsten. Since 1986 the chapel is a listed cultural heritage monument.
Deutsch: Grabkapelle Brüggemann an der Straße Auf der Leuchtenburg in Hopsten, Kreis Steinfurt, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Im Jahr 1705 ursprünglich als „normale“ Wegekapelle errichtet, kam sie 1844 in den Besitz der Familie Brüggemann. 1846 wurde sie mit Genehmigung in ein kleines Mausoleum für den im Jahr zuvor in Paris verstorbenen Hopstener Seidenhändler Theodor Lucas Brüggemann umgewandelt. Damit ging ein Wunsch seiner Witwe Emilie Brüggemann in Erfüllung, die ihren verstorbenen Mann in der Heimat beerdigt wissen wollte. Seit 1986 steht die Kapelle unter Denkmalschutz.
