Homestead National Monument is located in Nebraska and was added to the Network in 2019. This site interprets the massive rush of emigration and land redistribution that in occurred in response to the passage of federal legislation. During Reconstruction, many people, including African Americans, moved west to take advantage of land opportunities and to escape the tensions of Reconstruction violence and disputes back east.
