he same meeting our homemissionaries voted to organize The Florida Home Missionary Society. The growth of the college has been substantial. It has four convenientand tasteful buildings. Knowles Hall is both chapel and recitation build-ing. The ladies and gentlemens cottages together will accommodateabout seventy, in single rooms, most of which are neatly and tastefullyfurnished. The Dining Hall is convenient, tasteful, and well ordered. Agymnasium has been already planned, and is to be erected at once. The Faculty consists of twelve professors and instructors. These areall teachers of experience. There are already three college classes, Senior,Sophomore and Freshman. The class that entered when the institutionwas first opened is to graduate the coming June. There is a sub-prepar-tory course which fits for the Preparatory Department. The PreparatoryDepartment has two courses of four years each, the classical and thescientific. There are in this department four classes now in preparation
Text Appearing After Image:
18 THE HOME MISSIONAEY. May, for college. The Academic Department makes prominent the Englishbranches, national science, French and German, and the fine arts. Thereare two collegiate courses, the classical and scientific. The religious life of the institution is positive. The home life of thecottages is pervaded by it. Nearly all in these cheerful homes are nowChristians. The Young Peoples Society of Christian Endeavor is deeplyearnest and useful. The standard of the college course is that of the NewEngland college. The instruction is thorough, and there is earnest devo-tion to their work on the part of the students in all departments. Thecalisthenic drill of every school day is an attractive feature, and will be moreattractive when the gymnasium is completed. Kollins College has a great mission for Florida. It is the best of NewEngland transferred bodily to this home missionary land. Emigrantsfrom the North and the native population can find here what they cannotafford to send for to
