I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. Christmas is a time in which, of all times in the year, the memoryof every remediable sorrow, wrong, and trouble in the world around usshould be active with us, not less than our own experiences, for all good. I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round,apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin—if anythingbelonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time ; a kind, forgiving,charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendarof the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open theirshut-up heaits freely, and to think of all humanity as fellow-passengersto the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.
