Summary
[edit]DescriptionHomalonychus theologus, penultimate male (F Homalonychidae) (4300955087).jpg |
Basically all spiders have various structural "hairs" (= setae) on their body. Authors Duncan, Autumn & Binford (2007) showed that Homalonychus setae are special, with many side-branches ("hairlettes") that serve to trap sand/soil particles, thus providing a natural cryptic covering for these spiders. www.nps.gov/orpi/naturescience/upload/Duncan_etal_2007.pdf |
