Deutsch: Die Holzfigur hält einen Holzstab in der Waage. Der Stab ist im Bildhintergrund drehbar gelagert. Am Stabende im Bildvordergrund, 38 cm vom Drehpunkt entfernt, ist er mit einem Messingzylinder der Masse 79,3 Gramm belastet. Dort wo das Männchen den Balken hält, wirken (gemessen) knapp 2 Newton. Das ist 20 cm vom Drehpunkt entfernt. Möchte das Männchen weniger Kraft nötig haben, muss es sich aber auf das Messinggewicht zubewegen, nicht davon weg (das ist das Paradoxon). Steht es direkt unter dem Messingzylinder, muss es die Last mit nur etwa einem Newton abstützen. Der Holzbalken selbst hat eine Masse von rund 50 Gramm. Das Bild entstand in der Mathe-AC Lernwerkstatt in Aachen.
English: The figure needs to exert an upward force of roughly 2 Newton. To get some relieve, however, it needs to move towards the brass weight at the end of the lever. This may look paradoxical at first. Usually one would move away from a burden to get relieve. If placed directly underneath the brass cylinder, the figure only needs a force of 1 Newton to keep the lever in balance. All forces have been measured. |
