Summary
[edit]DescriptionHoly Name of Jesus Cathedral, Raleigh, NC (28221481698).jpg | This Cathedral is located on a large plot of land in Southwest Raleigh. The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral is the newest Catholic Cathedral in the world, designed by McCrery Architects, and having been dedicated on July 26, 2017, replacing the old and outgrown the 320-seat c. 1924 Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown. Constructed in a Renaissance style with a dome, classical elements, and a large campanile-style belltower, the church appears to have been pulled straight out of Renaissance Italy rather than contemporary North Carolina, and was built to impress and awe. Seating 2000, the church is a big step up from the former Diocese Cathedral, and reflects how much the Catholic population of the state has grown in the last 100 years. It is a testament to the growth in wealth and population overall that North Carolina has experienced in that time frame as well. |
