This great reservoir corresponds tothe account that Hezekiah made a pool and a con-duit, and brought water into the city. I lost little time in ascending to the roof, for a viewof the city and its surroundings. u Jerusalem isbuilded as a city that is compact together. It occu-pies a high broad eminence, and is surrounded on allsides, but the northwest, by deep valleys. The west-ern part of the city is considerably higher than theeastern. The wall enclosing the city is lofty, and ofan imposing appearance, its entire circuit being abouttwo miles and a half.
