Description
Nederlands: Holwerd. Holwerd is het grootste dorp van de gemeente Dongeradeel in de Provincie Fryslân.

Op de foto de Hogebuurt in de oude kern van Holwerd. De straat met zijn trapjes voor de huizen, die waren nodig omdat de terp in het verleden is afgegraven vanwege de vruchtbare grond. De helling werd daarna te stijl, vandaar de trapjes. De straat is daardoor wel uniek in Europa. Aan het eind van de Hogebuurt zien we de Hervormde kerk uit 1778.

De toren dient nog steeds als baken voor de scheepvaart.
