Summary
[edit]DescriptionHolme, St Giles - the Barton Tomb - geograph.org.uk - 1718508.jpg |
English: Holme: St Giles - the Barton Tomb According to the church guide, based on a booklet by Nevil Truman, who was responsible for the skilful restoration begun in 1933, it is likely that the tomb was carved in John Bartons lifetime, and that the figures resemble Barton and his wife Isabella. The rotting corpse below is a reminder of mortality. Nikolaus Pevsner thought the tomb well-carved. |
