English: Red poppies are displayed during the Anzac Day commemorative service April 25, 2015, at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. Anzac, short for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, means any Australian or New Zealander who fought during World War I, specifically the battle of Gallipoli. During the service, poppies were handed to attendants to symbolize the blood that was shed during World War I. On the barren battlefield, poppies were among the first plants to bloom.
