Description
The experts at Bruun Rasmussen suggested that this was a ship bound for the United States and they had a point. The yellow funnel with a star was the sign of the Thingvalla shipping company, which had 10 vessels sailing between Denmark, Norway and the United States between 1880 and 1898. Several other paintings show their ships sporting a Stars and Stripes on the foremast, a company flag with a star on the mainmast and a Norwegian flag on the mizzen mast.
