Summary

[edit]
Description

This is Daewoo's latest midsize sedan, following the footsteps of the Espero, the Leganza (codenamed V100), and the Magnus (also known as Chevrolet Epica or Suzuki Verona, codenamed V200).

Daewoo builds this vehicle as the Tosca, though the Chevrolet variant retains the previous generation's Epica name, and General Motors' Australian brand, Holden, also gets the Epica name. For the South Korean domestic market, Daewoo was selling the vehicle under all three brand names; for export markets, it was Holden for the South Pacific, and Chevrolet for the rest of the world.

The Tosca/Epica gets the codename of V250 rather than the V300, as it is considered a redesign of the Magnus rather than a totally new model.

With Daewoo having been a General Motors brand/subsidiary for years, the distinction between Daewoo and non-Daewoo GM models was starting to blur more and more. The Daewoo brand had already been replaced by the Chevrolet brand for Europe (though Daewoo was responsible for building all the European Chevrolets) and the rest of the world, and by 2011, the Daewoo brand itself would disappear even in South Korea. However, Daewoo's remnants continue to do significant design work, coming up with the well-regarded Chevrolet Cruze.

Both this car and the North American market Chevrolet Malibu will be merged into a single, global Chevrolet Malibu; South Korea will be the first market to receive the global Malibu, in late 2011.
