Description
English: Hof van Wouw, Den Haag. In 1647 Cornelia van der Wouw founded the fourteen almshouses situated around a large court with a waterpump, for single elderly women of protestant faith. These houses are still inhabited in accordance with the conditions set out in Cornelia's testament. To each side of the gate are the more decorated houses of the caretaker and trustees. The almshouses are probably a design of city architect Bartholomeus van Bassen (1590-1652) in Dutch classicist style.
