Description

The "Home Forces" or "Home Guard" (Norwegian: 'Hjemmestyrkene' or 'HS') in Norway were a military resistance organization during World War II. They were established by the Norwegian government in London and played a crucial role in the liberation of Norway. The Home Forces prioritized avoiding direct confrontations with German forces, aiming for a peaceful surrender. They engaged in skirmishes and protected vital assets. Over 40,000 individuals were part of the Home Forces, with nearly 19,000 mobilized fighters. See Norwegian resistance movement.

Hjemmestyrkene (HS) i Norge var en militær motstandsorganisasjon som under okkupasjonen av Norge under andre verdenskrig| ble opprettet av den norske eksilregjeringen i London I det såkalte Septemberdirektivet ble det gitt retningslinjer for hvilken rolle hjemmestyrkene skulle spille under frigjøring av Norge. Begrepet Hjemmestyrkene ble kjent høsten 1944, før dette var de ikke kjent ved andre navn enn hjemmefronten. Utover høsten blir «Hjemmestyrkene» den offisielle betegnelsen på avdelinger underlagt regjeringens kommando, hvor også Milorg inngår.
