The order for the advance was given at four oclock. Theground was rough and cut up with numerous ravines. Ayresstruck the angle far west of its supposed position, instead ofCrawford, as was designed, and after some gallant fighting cap-tured the return work, securing a large number of prisoners ofRansoms brigade of Johnsons division and taking many battleflags.
