City, where he remained for only a short period,and from there came to Pittsburgh, Pa., where he hassince remained. He is now deceased, but the mother,who was born in Mifflin township, Allegheny county. Pa.,is still living, at the age of eighty-three years. Mr. Lippert was born in Baldwin township, Alleghenycounty. Pa., Sept. 29, 1866. His first school attendancewas at the parochial schools. Thereafter he went to work,but his ambition looked toward a profession, and whileemployed as a glass worker he attended night schoolsand saved money for his higher education. When he hadaccumulated sufficient funds to warrant it, he enteredthe University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor, and wasgraduated from that institution with the degree ofBachelor of Laws, in the class of 1900. He was regis-tered with William Brennan, Esq., and later with Wil-liam M. Galbraith, Esq. Mr. Lippert was admitted tothe bar March 22, 1902, and entered upon a partnershipwith Thomas T. Kern, which continued for three years.

Wen-dell, a daughter of Stephen and Josephine Wendell, ofPittsburgh, Pa., her parents now deceased. Mr. andMrs. Lippert have only one child living, Mary JosephineLippert. JOSEPH WASSER—Making a success in the produc-tion of a daily necessity of the mercantile world, Jo-seph Wasser, of Pittsburgh, Pa., has for more than aquarter of a century been a prominent manufacturer ofwooden and paper boxes. Mr. Wasser was born in Russia, July 15, 1870, andleceived his education in his native country. He cameto America at the age of sixteen years, locating in Pitts-burgh, Pa. He was first employed as a cigar manufac-turer, and continued along this line for about eightyears. Then, seeing the opportunities in the line of boxmaking, he founded the business which has now becomea thriving industry. This was in 1894, and Mr. Wasserwas the sole owner of the business.
