WILLIAM FLINN, president and chairman of the firm of Booth & Flinn, Ltd., Contractors, has beenfor many years a prominent factor in the business worldand in the political arena of Pennsylvania. As StateSenator and member of the House of Representatives,Mr. Flinn has accomplished much for the welfare of theCommonwealth, and in local politics, as well as in busi-ness, his influence has always been exerted for theprogress and improvement of his home city of Pitts-burgh. Mr. Flinn was born May 26, 1851, in Manchester, Eng-land, but his parents were both natives of Ireland. Inthe year of his birth the family emigrated to the UnitedStates, settling in Pittsburgh, wherehis father becamea well-known citizen. After leaving school the ladwas variously employed in the brickyards, until he be-came old enough to be apprenticed to the trade of brassfinishing and gas and steam fitting. At the expiration ofhis time, with that aggressiveness which has ever char-acterized him, he became a contractor. From the be-ginning he was successful, and in 1877 formed a partner-ship with James J. Booth, under the name of Booth &Flinn, Ltd. The enterprise prospered, and the concern isto-day engaged in general contracting of all kinds, manyof the largest undertakings ever successfully carried outin the history of constructive v^rork about Pittsburgh, andin m.any other sections of the United States, being placedto its credit.
