Their prodigious size. fill their bags with the utmost possible dispatch,and then mount their camels and ride away.The ants, in the mean time, would take thealarm, and begin to assemble to attack them;but as their instinct prompted them to waituntil considerable numbers were collected be-fore they commenced their attack, the Indianshad time to fill their bags and begin their flightbefore their enemies were ready. Then com-menced the chase, the camels running at theirfull speed, and the swarms of ants following,and gradually drawing nearer and nearer. Atlength, when nearly overtaken, the Indianswould abandon the camels that they were lead-ing, and fly on, more swiftly, upon those whichthey rode. While the ants were busy in devour-ing the victims thus given up to them, the au-thors of all the mischief would make good theirescape, and thus carry off their gold to a placeof safety. These famous ants were bigger thanfoxes!
