Text Appearing Before Image:
chased in1831 the property which now lies betweenEddy street and the Kendall place, Howardavenue and the Turnpike, it was stipulatedin the deed that land should be set off onthe north and east sides of the property forroads, and thus Eddy street and that part ofHoward avenue came into being. The elbowin Eddy street occurs at a point where theCorson and Vreeland farms met and maybe due to this fact and some fence or otherfield bound on one or both of the farms. Between the years 1830 and 1833 MajorGeorge Howard purchased forty-two acres, which included all land between Eddy andLouis streets, a strip along the north sideof the latter and the present Hillard, Brui-nier, Martin and Stirn properties, and he isprobably responsible for Louis, which henamed Prospect street, and the northernportion of Howard avenue. That portion ofthe property which is represented by theCisco place he retained for a home, the re-mainder he cut up into fifty-foot lots whichwere sold at auction on August i, 1836.
Text Appearing After Image:

The view from these grounds is unrivaled in this or anyother country; the lots are of large dimensionsbounded on the one side upon an avenue, and theRichmond turnpike on the other. The title has been strictly investigated and is undispu-table. Maps will be ready and furnished in a few days. Terms, 10 per cent on the day of sale, 40 per cent onthe delivery of the deeds, and if desired, the balancecan remain on bond and mortgage.—(From the NewYork Commercial Advertiser of July 30, 1836
