200 Jahre Oktoberfest (1810 - 2010) - Bavaria today

Das Oktoberfest in München (mundartlich auch Wiesn) ist eines der größten Volksfeste der Welt. Es findet seit 1810 auf der Theresienwiese in München statt und wird Jahr für Jahr von rund sechs Millionen Menschen besucht. Für das Oktoberfest brauen die Münchner Brauereien ein spezielles Bier (Wiesn Märzen) mit mehr Stammwürze und damit auch mit höherem Alkoholgehalt (rund 6–7 %). Begonnen hat das Oktoberfest mit der Hochzeit von Kronprinz Ludwig I. und Prinzessin Therese im Jahr 1810. Zu diesem Anlass wurde eine fünf Tage dauernde Feier für das Volk ausgerichtet. Beendet wurde das Volksfest mit einem Pferderennen vor den Toren der Stadt München. Damals lag die heutige Theresienwiese nicht in München, sondern ausserhalb der Stadtmauern.
