the Farmers and MerchantsBank, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Major Funkhousers military service commenced in connectionwith the Chicago Hussars, of which he was a lieutenant from 1889to 1894. He became captain of the Chicago City Troop (afterwardTroop C, First Cavalry, Illinois National Guard) in 1894, and servedthus for four years, becoming captain of Company K, First Infantry,United States Volunteers, in 1898, and as such entering the warwith Spain. Before the conclusion of hostilities he was promoted tobe assistant adjutant general, First Brigade, Third Division, FifthArmy Corps, and from 1898 to 1900 was captain of Company K,First Infantry, Illinois National Guard. Since the latter year he hasbeen major of the First Battalion, First Infantry, Illinois NationalGuard. He was president of the Illinois branch of the Society of theArmy of Santiago de Cuba, and is treasurer of the Military Order ofForeign Wars of the United States.
