In January, 1891, upon his return from Norway, Mr. Giavercame to Chicago, and soon afterward commenced work on the stafifof the chief engineer of the Worlds Columbian Exposition. It wasnot long before he was assistant chief engineer, as such superintend-ing the designing of all structures for the exposition, examining andapproving the plans for all the buildings erected on the grounds. Heretained this position of great responsibility until the completion ofall the structural work, in August, 1893. At the conclusion of the exposition work Mr. Giaver entered intothe general engineering and construction field, continuing thus until1897, when he accepted a position as designer of bridges for theChicago Drainage Canal, which he held for the succeeding two years.Since 1899 he has been chief engineer for D.
