English: This is a graph showing the population growth over time of three common regions associated with Tokyo, Japan:
1) Tokyo-to, the official borders of the "Tokyo Metropolis" 2) Greater Tokyo, which is Tokyo-to plus Kanagawa-ken, Saitama-ken, and Chiba-ken 3) The Tokyo "ku-area", which is the historical 23-ku area in the center of Tokyo (before 1947 the number of ku varied) The population statistics are taken from the official Japanese government site: http://www.stat.go.jp/english/data/chouki/index.htm The Tokyo-to and prefecture (ken) population numbers are (essentially) yearly, whereas the ku-area population numbers were taken at five-year intervals and linearly interpolated in other years. |
