Summary
[edit]DescriptionHistorical floods hit the Dominican Republic (Copernicus).jpg |
English: The Dominican Republic has been recently affected by unprecedented rainfall that President Luis Abinader labeled as the “largest rainfall event ever” in the country's history. This deluge resulted in devastating floods across multiple areas, leading to extensive damage. At least 24 casualties have been reported as well as significant infrastructure destruction, including over 2,600 residences, 5 bridges, and 6 roads. Additionally, 45 communities have been isolated, and more than 1 million individuals are currently without access to clean and driking water. The flooded areas west of the province of Sánchez are visible in this image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 20 November. |
