Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1856, this Italianate-style house was designed by August Kutzbock for Samuel R. Fox, a hardware merchant, and became home to Napoleon Bonaparte Van Slyke, a banker, and his wife, Annie Van Slyke, in 1860. It was modified circa 1915, adding a rear wing and the present front porch. The house features a sandstone exterior with a low-slope front and side gable roof, dentils and paired brackets at the eaves, extruded corner pilasters, decorative window trim surrounds, four-over-four double-hung windows, a front door with an arched transom and decorative trim surround, a front porch with a low-slope roof, sandstone columns, paneled railings, brackets, and dentils, and stone chimneys. The house is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
