Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built by Alexander Ramsey, first Governor of the Minnesota Territory and second governor of the State of Minnesota, this Second Empire-style stone mansion stands along Exchange Street in Saint Paul’s Irvine Park neighborhood. The house was constructed between 1868 and 1872, and was designed by Monroe Sheire and John Summers. The house remained in the Ramsey family until Alexander Ramsey’s last surviving granddaughter, Anita, passed away in 1964, bequeathing the structure and its contents to the Minnesota Historical Society for use as a historical museum. The house was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, and is a contributing structure in the Irvine Park Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
