PASQUALE de-NISCO, rector ofOur Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholicchurch of Roseto, Northampton county, Penn-sylvania, which is located between the WindGap and the Delaware Water Gap, and adjoiningthe town of Bangor, was born in Italy, in 1858,a member of a family of children, three of whomhave taken orders. Rev. Pasquale de-Nisco acciuired his educa-tion partly in his native country and partly inLondon, England. He was ordained to thepriesthood in 1884, after which he was sent totake charge of an Italian congregation in Brook-lyn, New York. In 1895 he was called by theBishop to London, England, to assume pastoralcharge of the Italian colony in that city, but aftertwo years was again sent to the Lnited States,this time to take charge of the Italian colony atRoseto, Pennsylvania, where he has since re-mained. They built achurch and procured the services of variouspriests at stated times. The first to assumecharge was the Rev. James McGevran, rector ofSt. Bernards Roman Catholic church of Easton,Pennsylvania. Prior to the erection of theChurch of Our Lady of Alt. Carmel a temporarychapel in the woods was erected, where theearlier settlers used to assemble and sing hymnsand Psalms to their hearts content. The village of Roseto, Pennsylvania, in 1897,differed little from hundreds of other Italian col-onies in that state, but since the advent of Fatherde-Nisco matters have entirely changed. Themajority of the residents came from the samevillage in Italy, also called Roseto, in the prov-ince of Foggia, where they were born and grewup together, and most of them are related by tiesof kinship of some sort or another.
