Summary
[edit]DescriptionHiston station and guided busway - geograph.org.uk - 1232826.jpg |
English: Histon station and guided busway Histon station was opened 17 August 1847, on the Cambridge & St Ives branch of the Eastern Counties Railway. The station closed to passengers in 1970, but the line remained open for goods traffic to Chivers jam factory until 1983, and for ballast from Fen Drayton until 1992. The line was finally closed in August 2003, and the tracks, which had remained in place, were lifted in 2007 prior to the construction of the Cambridge Huntingdon guided busway. Although scheduled for demolition to make way for a car park, the County Council bowed to public opinion, and the station was reprieved.
The picture was taken from the site of the former level crossing, looking westwards towards Huntingdon. |
