Français : Le Pélican, vaisseau de d'Iberville pris dans les glaces du détroit de la baie d'Hudson en août 1697. Vaisseau identifiable grâce au texte de Bacqueville de La Potherie, embarqué sur le navire en 1697 et qui décrit la rencontre avec les Esquimaux sur la banquise ainsi que l’amarrage du vaisseau sur la glace avec des grappins. Dessin réalisé pour illustrer les campagnes de d'Iberville à Terre-Neuve et dans la baie d'Hudson pendant la guerre de la Ligue d'Augsbourg (1688-1697). Dessin publié en 1722 puis en 1753. English: The Pelican, d'Iberville's ship stuck in the ice of Hudson Bay in August 1697. Vessel identifiable with the text of Bacqueville de La Potherie, embarked on the ship in 1697 and describes the meeting with the Eskimos on the ice floe as well as docking the ship on the ice with grapples. Drawing made to illustrate the fighting in Hudson Bay during the war of the League of Augsburg (1688-1697). Drawing published in 1722 and then in 1753. Translation of text on the image : The vessel held by grapples makes alliance with the Inuit on the ice (title). Letter A : sailors doing the laundry. Letter B : sailors recovering fresh water (on ice). Letter C : ceremonial pipe (peace pipe) presented to the Inuit. Letter D : « marine wolf » = seal. Letter E : sailors playing to warm themselves.
