Summary

[edit]
Description We eventually gave up and moved on. Much, much later, we saw a lot of commotion at the Hippo enclosure and espied two of the mighty beasts frolicking in the water. Here is one of them baring his nearly 6" long canines as both of the were play-fighting. The hippo is considered one of the most dangerous animals in the African wild and is responsible for many human deaths. The jaws are powerful enough to bite a massive Nile crocodile in half, though they do not usually do that. Although primarily herbivores, hippos have on occasion been seen to eat meat. For more notes on hippos, see my Kenya Animals set. (Al Ain, UAE, Dec. 2012)
