Opened in the 1860s by the South Eastern Railway on the new shorter route to Dover. Goods services withdrawn in 1960 and the platforms extended to take 12 car trains. Making it one of only a few, until recent modernisation programmes, between London and the coast that could accommodate 12 cars.
