BULBS TOR FALL PLANTING tor the Garden, Conservatory and Window Garden. B ULBOUS plants are among the showiest of our garden favorites, and with little care and following the cultural instructions the grow- ing of bulbs can be made a pleasure. Beginners have an impression that there are many difficulties to overcome in the management of bulbs, in order to have them produce their flowers to perfection, while in reality no other plants succe«d as well, under all circumstances, as the different classes of bulbs and tuberous- rooted plants, with as simple and little care as bulbs require. There are a few necessary points to be considered, and these will be found in the various cultural in- structions, which, if you follow them close- ly, will remove the supposed difficulties. The growing of bulbs, other than the charms their flowers possess, has many ad- vantages over that of any other class of flowering plants; among others, and a very great one, is that many of them produce their flowers in very early spring, at a season when few other plants are in blossom. At this season, in a sheltered, sunny spot, a few clumps of Snowdrops, Crocus, Scillas, will present a mass of color, in graceful forms, while the snow yet lingers in shaded places ; before these are gone the Hyacinths refresh us with their grateful fragrance: these are soon lullowed by the Narcissus and Early Tulips, and all before vegetation s fairly started. In rapid succession follow the gorgeous Parrot Tulips, Crown Imperials, and before these are gone the Lilies com- mence their long succession of bloom. Interspersed with these is a host of other bulbs, equally valuable for their flowers, but whose names are rarely mentioned. Please be particular in ordering to write name and address distinctly and in full.
