Français : Au pied de la croix, la Vierge tient sur ses genoux le corps du Christ et lève les bras au ciel tandis que saint Jean, sainte Marie Madeleine et les saintes femmes sont en prière et derrière eux, Nicodème et Joseph d'Arimathie. A l'arrière plan se dresse la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris et un paysage parisien devant des collines. Au premier plan, se tiennent deux anges tenant les instruments de la Passion au pied d'un tombeau ouvert et vide et tenant un cartouche dans lequel se trouve une lettrine « S » et l'inscription « Maistre Estienne Ch[eva]l[ie]r » et le début d'un texte désormais caché. Cette miniature illustrait le début de la prière du Stabat Mater. |

Démembré et les miniatures découpées au début du XVIIIe siècle puis montées sur une planchette de bois par un menuisier encadreur parisien vers 1790. Propriété de Georg Brentano puis acquis auprès de son fils par Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale en 1891. Donné à l'Institut de France. |
