English: two hyptheses of buoyancy control by heteromorph scaphicone ammonites. A) Kakabadze & Sharikadze (1993): the ammonites have been able to control the position of the shell shifting the fluids into the phragmocone ; B) Monks & Young (1997): the soft body of these ammonites did not fill all the body chamber and the animal was able to modify the centre of gravity of the shell moving within the body chamber.
