Description

Heterodermia speciosa (Wulfen) Trevis., 1868

Photograph of a herbarium specimen showing crescent-shaped soralia on the lower surface of lobe tips.

This specimen of Heterodermia speciosa was growing on Fagus grandifolia Ehrh. near the trail up Lead Mine Mountain close to the Washington-Hancock County Line, off Route 9, Maine, USA (Lat. 44o51.470' N,   Long. 68o05.914' W).

Collected by E.C. Uebel, and determined by Dr. David H.S. Richardson (No. U-155, 13 Jun 2001)
