English: Halifax Evening Courier - Saturday 30 July 1932. Article:
The French Submarine Disaster Six Children Saved From National Funeral for Entombed Crew Fire Paris, Saturday. The crew of the submarine Promethee, which suddenly and mysteriously sang on the afternoon of July 7, with the loss of 62 lives, were to-day given a national funeral. This morning, in glorious weather, France paid her supreme homage to the 62 officers and men whose graves lie on the ocean bottom, 41 fathoms deep. M. Herriot. the Premier, the Minister of Marine (M. Leygues) and the Chief of the Naval General Staff (Admiral Durandviel) aboard the destroyer Bison, crossed the spot where the submarine lies. Wreaths were dropped, a salute of 21 guns fired and a naval band played the Marseillaise. The Sham was followed in procession by a flotilla of submarines and destroyers, and the Cunard tender Lotharingia. conveying relatives and friends of the dead.—Reuter. [edit]This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
