Summary
[edit]DescriptionHerringfleet wind pump - geograph.org.uk - 1032961.jpg |
English: Herringfleet wind pump The shed, now empty, presumably used to house an internal combustion engine driving that pump visible in the foreground, for use on windless days. On windy days the sails drove a large waterwheel in the housing visible in front of the tower. The construction uses a rather odd collection of poles to provide the drive to rotate the sails into wind. This seems to have been a manual operation instead of the usual automatic fantail drive. |
