English: The photo shows the typical "Auenwald"-vegetation (flood plain) along the upper, north-eastern inflow of the Anna-Fließ into lake Herrensee in Strausberg (Germany) in the year 2012. Lake Herrensee is part of the Special Area of Conservation DE-3449-301, which includes lake Herrensee, the Lange-Damm-Wiesen und Barnimhänge near the city of Strausberg, Brandenburg. Lake Herrensee itself is surrounded by several smaller biotopes that range from silted lake, Auenwald, swamp and weat meadow to nutrient poor meadow and islands of dry, sandy meadow. In the years of 2011 and 2012, lake Herrensee and the surroundings moist areas were well watered, but have turned significantly dryer during the drought since 2013. This has become surprisingly fast visible in the rapid decrease in the numbers of a range of Arthropods (especially butterflies, dragonflies and damselfies) and moisture loving plants like the moorland spotted orchid. The photos from 2012 and 2016 should be compared with regard to changes in water level. As there are quite a few regions in the state of Brandenburg that are considered to be at risk for drought, this can be seen as a good example for faster changes that can be expected to come with the predicted climatic change. |
