Français : La peinture représente une troisième partie de la légende d'Hermès, le dieu grec du commerce et des voyageurs, au moment où il joue d'une lyre enchantée, symbole de l'harmonie, qu'il a inventée à partir d'une carapace de tortue, de roseaux et d'autres parties de boeufs et de moutons. La scène semble se dérouler en Égypte comme le laissent croire les personnages accompagnés de la déesse égyptienne Issis et d'un pharaon (à gauche), d'un faucon symbolisant le dieu égyptien Horus (au centre), de fleurs de lotus symbolisant le dieu Râ (en bas) et de poissons du Nil.
