Cette dernière figure nous paraît êtretout simplement une des nymphes du fleuve. Quel-ques critiquesy voient une Myrrha ; et pour eux, le glaiveattaché au pied de lautel de Vénus est lépée dontCinyrasse servit pour tuer sa fille; dautres veulent ap-pliquer à ces trois personnages une fable moins connue,à savoir : les amours dAdonis avec la nymphe Eury-nome (3), la jalousie de Jupiter, qui fit périr Adonis etchangea Eurynome en paon; et enfin, lintervention deDiane, qui ressuscita le jeune chasseur, et qui rendit à lanymphe sa première forme. Ces mythes sont dautantplus obscurs, quils nappartiennent pas à la mythologiegrecque proprement dite, mais quils se perden dansles origines orientales de toutes les fables. (1) Apollod., III.
