ss Terry was surely never seen. The comedy was with-drawn after a run of two hundred and twelve nights, only tomake way for the series of Mr. Irvings farewell performances,which commenced Avith The Bells. On June and, TheLyons Mail was revived with a new feature in the appearanceof Miss Terry as Jeannette. At an afternoon performance, onJune 14th, in aid of the funds of the Royal College of Music,Mr. Irving resumed the character of Robert Macaire. The nextof the farewell performances was Charles I. on June 30th.This was followed, on July nth, by Hamlet; on July 16th,by The Merchant of Venice; on July 19th, by EugeneAram (in one act), and Th6 Belles Stratagem;* and, onJuly asrd, by Louis XI. Mr. Henry Irvings farewell benefit on Saturday, July 28th,brought the season to a close. This was a memorable eveningin the annals of dramatic art, and will not easily be forgotten bythose who had the good fortune to be present. After this came The Belles Stratagem, compressed, forthis occasion, into two acts. But everybody felt that these wereonly the preliminaries to the real event of the evening.
